Title: From Dendrites to Labyrinths: The Morphology of Magnetic Flux Patterns in Superconductors
Speaker: Professor Alan Dorsey
Speaker Info: University of Florida
Brief Description:
Special Note:
Abstract:

Magnetic field distributions in superconductors can assume a wide range of interesting patterns, from dendritic or ``fingered'' patterns (under nonequilibrium conditions) to labyrinthine patterns (due to demagnetizing effects). This talk will emphasize some of the physical mechanisms which produce these patterns, drawing connections to other pattern forming systems, such as the dendritic growth of solids into their supercooled melt and the labyrithine pattern formation which occurs in ferrofluids.
