Abstract:
There are three recent achievements in the theory of turbulent advection. First of all, the anomalous scaling (intermittency) of passive scalar driven by turbulent velocity was shown to exist generically. Second, a bridge between statistical and spatio-temporal features of the intermittency phenomenon was established by studying the far tails of the probability distribution function of the scalar difference via a steepest descent (instanton) formalism. Third, scale separation ideas helped to describe PDF of the scalar dissipation. I'll review the keystones of the passive scalar theory in the talk.Date: Tuesday, January 27, 1998
