Abstract:

New type of turbulence driven by elasticity at small Re and large De numbers discovered by us recently experimentally, will be dis- cussed. This state is used to test an applicability of the Ol- droyd-B model to complex three-dimensional flows of dilute poly- mer solutions. We relate behaviour of polymers in the elastic turbulent state to turbulent drag reduction. In this way we gave an interpretation to our recent experiments on dependence of the onset and value of drag reduction in von-Karman swirling flow be- tween two discs on the polymer elasticity.
