Abstract:

The Chirikov map is a simple Hamiltonian system which has its origin from the accelerator physics and has many applications to the understanding of the nonlinear dynamics problems. A quantized Chirikov map in the presence of a magnetic flux possesses a number of interesting features. In particular, the quantum system can exhibit transitions between the localized modes and the extended modes in momentum. The extended modes are the quantum mechanical realization of the classical accelerator modes and are also responsible for the observed hydrogen ionizations under microwave excitation. In some range of parameters, the quantum wave functions become completely chaotic.
