Morel and Voevodsky constructed topological realization functors from their homotopy category of schemes over $\mathbb{C}$ to the ordinary homotopy category of spaces. This allowed them to make partial calculations in the homotopy category of schemes.Date: Monday, October 30, 2000We will discuss how to construct this functor so that it is a left Quillen functor. This cleaner framework allows us to construct analogous \'etale homotopy realization functors over arbitrary fields. The long-term goal is to use these functors as calculational tools in the homotopy category of schemes.
